Meta has been making headway in the quest for metaverse adoption by releasing use cases and applications like Horizon Workroom, a virtual working environment. In addition to purchasing the virtual reality headset Oculus in 2014, Meta also incorporated NFT into its affiliates, Facebook and Instagram. At a speech at the World Economic Forum 2023, Chris Cox, the Chief Product Officer of the Meta platforms, said that Meta is developing a comedy club metaverse.

Although it could be a worthwhile innovation, Chris recognized that the innovation had some drawbacks or difficulties that had to be overcome in order for it to be useful. He brought up the issue of audience size. The 18-person comedy room that would eventually house the Meta comedy club will be devoid of murmur, laughter, and audience interaction. Chris believes comedy club experiences are not just about viewing the community; it's about hearing the crowd laugh, highlighting the significance of audience size.

Chris indicated that the Meta comedy club metaverse's audience size issue would be solved by trading some other necessary features or capabilities. High concurrency is required to achieve the desired audience size, but doing so may compromise other features like latency and high-resolution experiences.

Several individuals would be participating in the comedy club metaverse experience, their avatars rendered, headsets covering their faces, and movement being sent online. If it appears that you're replying to a joke, it will be transmitted in a matter of nanoseconds because none of them can be pre-rendered and all of them must be precise and timely.

In addition to the difficulties in launching a comedy club metaverse, Chris noted "a hyperlink" as a constraint of the metaverse's lack of existence. The concept of a hyperlink describes how to move from one type of experience to another. Regarding Meta platforms goods, he claimed that one action taken by Facebook and Instagram is the provision of tools to artists and that the creator tools we provide to them are what distinguish the experiences.

The Bottom Line

The metaverse's first may be A Plateful of Laughs, but a lot of other entertainment options have already made their way into the Web3. One such interactive metaverse movie experience is The MetaMovie: Alien Rescue, which is hosted by Neos. Play Together and Genie Music collaborated to produce a metaverse music conversation show earlier this year, and Dark Slope and Insight are working together to produce a metaverse reality show.
